How to move a window

1. Click a standard app window's title bar and begin dragging it.
2. Keep holding the left mouse button.
3. Use a configured GridLion directional or direct Space keyboard shortcut.
4. After the Desktop changes, continue positioning the window or release the mouse button.

GridLion waits until it has seen a real drag, not just a click-and-hold. Keep the pointer in the title bar and keep the physical drag active until the shortcut commits.

Which shortcuts work

Window moving is available for directional shortcuts and direct Space shortcuts. It follows your GridLion visual order: the selected visual cell is resolved to the matching live macOS Desktop before the window moves.

In Keyboard settings, select the scope that owns your shortcut and leave Switch spaces while navigating turned off. Window dragging does not work when this setting is enabled.

With the setting off, the OSD previews your navigation and commits the move when you release the shortcut modifiers. Keep holding the mouse button through that modifier release.

Manual picker selection, trackpad navigation, Workspaces, and the last-used Space shortcut do not move a dragged window.

Supported windows and targets

• The focused window must be a movable, standard app window.
• The pointer must remain in that window's title-bar region.
• The source window and target must belong to the same display.
• The target must be an ordinary macOS Desktop.
• Full-screen app Spaces, tiled Spaces, system Spaces, and GridLion placeholders are not supported.
• Window moving supports macOS's global Desktop numbers 1 through 16.

Minimized, full-screen, nonstandard, or nonmovable windows are left alone. Accessibility permission is required, as it is for GridLion's other global shortcuts and Space controls.

macOS Mission Control shortcuts

To carry a live drag safely, GridLion uses macOS's direct Switch to Desktop N action for the selected Desktop. macOS numbers these Desktops globally across all displays; those numbers are separate from GridLion's per-display visual slot numbers.

If the required macOS shortcut is configured but disabled, GridLion enables that one shortcut. This is a persistent, system-wide change in macOS Keyboard Shortcuts. GridLion does not disable it again after moving the window.

If the window does not move

GridLion beeps and leaves the current Space unchanged when it cannot prove that moving the dragged window is safe. Common causes are:

• Switch spaces while navigating is enabled for the shortcut's Keyboard settings scope.
• The mouse button was released before a deferred shortcut committed.
• The drag began outside the focused window's title bar.
• The target is a full-screen, tiled, placeholder, or otherwise unsupported Space.
• A per-display shortcut targets a different display from the dragged window.
• The corresponding macOS direct Desktop shortcut is unavailable.
• macOS is temporarily reporting an unstable display or Space layout.

While the physical drag remains active, GridLion does not fall back to its normal animated Space switch. This protects the window and leaves the mouse button, pointer position, and window frame under your control.
